How do they work?

It sounds obvious but ALL methods allow the doctor to remove fat! This leaves a better contour and hopefully a happy patient.

They work in one of 4 basic ways…..

Liposuction

This was the original method of fat removal, it first began when a surgeon was inspired by the request of a patient. She requested removal of a large fatty lump, he wanted to do the treatment but the patient would not accept the risk of a large scar. His name was Yves-Gerard Illouz, others came forward and made significant strides in development of Liposuction.

However, in the final analysis the fat is sucked out under high suction pressure. This does cause quite significant bleeding and damage to the tissues, such that traditional liposuction is now falling rapidly out of use.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction UAL (Vaser)

This was a very early method of fat reduction and developed in Italy in the late 1980’s.  The early versions were very problematic, such that they caused frequent severe burns and damage to the nerve cells, with talk of possible long term complications (1,2). It largely fell out of use but has been refined and improved and relaunched over the past 6 years.

It works by passing high frequency sound through the fat and shaking the cells off their stalks, the fat is then sucked out still at high pressure.

The major problem with this method is that it does not significantly tighten the skin unless one uses high power to generate more heat. With high power comes much greater risk of serious burns as any doctor using this technique will have experienced.

Laser Lipo (Smart Lipo, Advanced Laser Lipo, Cool Lipo etc…)

All laser lipo techniques work in the same way and were pioneered again in Italy in the 1990’s. They breakdown the fat with a laser, in to an oily liquid, the oil is then gently sucked out to leave the finished contour.

Smart Lipo was the first and became a worldwide phenomenon. It was very effective in treating small areas of fat but not powerful enough to perform treatments on larger areas or fibrous tissue. Other more powerful lasers were developed. The results are superior, however the procedure is quite tiring for the doctor, also it is difficult to cover larger areas with this technology.

How does Bodytite work?

BodyTite works by using the advanced technology of RFAL (Radiofrequency assisted lipo) this ensures that the energy is localised precisely where it is required and it heats the fat to make an oily liquid, which is gently removed. The skin tightens immediately. The machine is designed to shut down on reaching the required temperature, thus reducing any risk of overheating.
